Week 4 - I see beauty in the struggle

"Struggle" This week was a struggle for me because there are a lot of problems in my surroundings but not in the workplace because my workplace is good but the surroundings outside the hospital was not that great. I didn't took some photos this week because I'm busy doing a lot of work in our office so my apologies for that one but I will take more pictures next week (That was the first struggle). So Monday Jayson and I picked up the remaining wines and other things at the CSR then this was my struggle; carrying heavy things because It was so heavy so I used the trolley so that it would be easy for me so that I'll not carrying those boxes of wines. Then we organized the gifts for the doctors (those doctors that didn't attend the Christmas party). After that we changed some posters but here's the struggle; We can't change the poster because the screw was so tight and we can't remove it using our hands so Jayson and I went to the maintenance to borrow a tool so that we can remove the screw and then suddenly we successfully removed it thanks to maintenance. And after that I call it a day for Monday.

Tuesday. First Jayson and I photocopied some CCS and unload some in the information booth and nurse stations. Also we went to East West bank to deposit the cheque but then there was a problem because the account number was not right so we went back to our office. Then after that we distribute the remaining gifts of the doctors to their clinics together with Mam Jen and Mam Marylan. We went back and forth because we forgot the other gifts in the office so we went back and forth to our office then to the clinics. And that is all for Tuesday. For Wednesday the struggle is indeed REAL. First i went back and forth all over the hospital from 1st floor up to the 4th floor because they instructed me to give some papers and receipts to accounting department, audit and purchasing office. Then after that Ms. Cris instructed me to buy a mass card at National Bookstore the struggle here is TRAFFIC and it is hot outside. Ms Cris keep on calling me because I'm 30 minutes stucked in traffic. After that I cut some papers, flyers and vouchers for the launching of the promo of DMMC the After party package check-up.

T-R-A-F-F-I-C!!!!
I bought the mass card! but got stucked in traffic for 15-20 minutes
90 pieces!!!!
1 hour later.... I'm done!!
Thursday. Jayson and I together with Ms. Leah we went to Asidera to buy some toys for the kids and after that Ms. Cris told us that we should make a brochure to promote the eye center of DMMC. So Jayson and I think a concept and he is good at editing photos but the struggle is our computer doesn't have an internet connection and photoshop so Jayson is editing at Paint and it was very difficult for him. While I'm translating the english sample flyers I'll turn it into Filipino so that the people will understand more about the content of the flyers. It was very difficult for me to translate because one there's no internet connection and another one is the words because they are too deep when they translated to Filipino so that was the struggle. Then Ms Cris gave us some chocolates so that we beat the energy gap (That was Milo's latest commercial so.. LSS 😂)

Thursday morning and It's cold outside

Merry Christmas indeed!!! 😎

Friday. We bought 2 boxes of wine in Puregold Tanauan because that's for the doctors who didn't attend the Christmas party last week and we took almost 1 hour and 30 mins to find a wine because of TRAFFIC in Tanauan and also because Christmas is approaching so that's why a lot of people are in the grocery stores to have their last minute shopping for their noche buena and after that we went back to DMMC and we continue to design the flyers for the eye center but right now we have an internet connection and also Adobe photoshop. That was a very big upgrade for our work so that it would be much easier and accessible for us. We are in marketing so we need those things. And after that all interns were called for a meeting in the 4th floor with Sir Ronnel (the HR Assistant training manager) he discussed with us the agenda of the meeting, the challenges, how was the experience and some problems. But there was no problem because we're all good here in DMMC and we're happy that they are treating us well which is good for the both. That was all for Friday.

This week was a struggle for me but there's always a good insights about those struggles that I've experienced this week. First one, Be patient! Patience is a virtue so I need to be patient when it terms of traffic in Tanauan because traffic is everywhere! Wherever you go there's always traffic and I think as of right now there's no solution how to minimize the traffic not particularly in Tanauan but in other places. The second one that I've learn is that the struggle you're in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow. All those struggles that I've been through this week was a learning experience for a better tomorrow. While we are making the concept of the flyers, I realized that the lectures and teachings of Ms. Anna last sem in our Advertising and Strategic Marketing was applied on what we are doing right now here in DMMC. Organizing events, thinking concepts for the flyers and the design of it. I would like to thank Ms. Anna for that because I learned a lot from her 😄

That was all for this week and make sure you follow me on my social media accounts (the widgets on the right side) to see more of my daily tasks in my internship and also I'll appreciate if you'll read and share my blog and I'll see you guys next week for Week 5 of my internship. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!! 😃

Week 3 - Be Thankful

"Be Thankful," That was the words that I heard all week long. Let's just say Christmas is approaching so that means we're giving gifts and share the love to all our loved ones. Week #3 of my internship in DMMC was great and this week is more productive compared to last week so Monday, I arrived at DMMC at exactly 7:30 am and that was good because in FPIP there's no traffic in morning every Monday so all is good and I'm excited to do some work. So 7:30 am I was at the hallway waiting for the office to open and while I'm waiting I played my favorite mobile game; NBA 2K17 of course. Then at exactly 7:55 am the office is now open and I greet all of the employees a good morning to all of them and now Mam Cris instructed me to photocopy the schedules and telephone directory of the doctors (50 pieces) then once I finished Mam Cris told me to give it to the information section. I went to the medical records to photocopy the schedules and the struggle is real for me because I forgot how to operate the photocopy machine! So I asked some assistance to demonstrate to me once again how to operate the photocopy machine and I'm thankful that one of the employees assisted me to operate the photocopy machine and now I gave it to the information section. That was the first struggle that I've encountered in my internship so far.. I hate you photocopy machine!! just kidding!
The struggle is real :(
And after that Jayson and I organized the prizes for the games of the upcoming Christmas party of the doctors at The Park Events Center in Makiling, Calamba, Laguna this Wednesday. There are a lot of prizes like the Ferrero that's for the winners of the games while the pineapple juices are for the consolation prizes. And after we organize the prizes we took a break for 15 minutes and then we went back afterwards. Back at the office I answered some calls coming from other departments and after that we took a lunch break together with my co interns in Accounting department. After that Jayson and I went back to our office and Mam Cris told us to bought the props for the games in doctor's Christmas party so Jayson and I went to Waltermart Tanauan to buy some props and there's one problem; In Waltermart they don't have a red cups. We went to UNO, Japan Homeplus and there are no red cups so we went to CitiMart and we found a red cups there so all is well and we went back to DMMC to give the props to Mam Cris and after that we took a rest and call it a day.
Damn!!
Tuesday. It's my grandfather's birthday and I hope he's in the good place with God #RIP. I arrived at DMMC at 7:32 am. And again I'm in the waiting game because I'm early as always. And my daily routine while on the waiting game... Play NBA 2K17 as always! And again Mam Cris told me to photocopy again the schedules and telephone directory of the doctors because the one of the doctor's schedule is not updated so it needs to be change and again I met the photocopy machine for 2nd time this week and the struggle is real once again!!! I asked again some assistance because the machine is not working and I'm thankful that one of the employees helped me again to do it then after that I gave it to the information section and unload the ones I gave yesterday.  And after that we prepare the things for the doctor's Christmas party because we will gonna deliver it to the events center. It composed of 10 boxes of wine, 5 boxes of prizes and other boxes for the props. It was kinda hard to carry those boxes because it is so heavy and also it is raining outside! But then suddenly we successfully delivered the things for the event and we went back to DMMC then suddenly I went back to the office and Mam Marylan gave me a box of pizza!! PIZZA!!! and it was perfect timing because I'm hungry so I'm thankful for that and I call it a day for Tuesday.

Pizza will never break your heart :)
Wednesday. Mam Cris told us yesterday that we don't need to go to DMMC in the morning and just go there at The Park Events Center at 1:00 pm to prepare the things for the doctor's Christmas party. The party will start at 7:30 pm so we have a lot of time to prepare for the event. First I was so confused what I'll wear on the event so Mam Cris told us that wear black polo shirt or long sleeves. So luckily I have black long sleeves so that's nice and also I'm confused what shoes that I'll gonna wear so I checked my sneaker boxes I have 2 choices. First is the Vans Sk8 High black and white classics from Vans or the classic Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG in "Yin Yang" colorway. I tried both of them which will match my outfit and I chose the Vans Sk8 High because I want my Air Jordan 1 to look more fresh in the future. And I arrived at the events center at 1:15 pm and now we start doing the gift wrapping for the doctor's giveaways which is the wine and the nuts. There are 80 giveaways for each doctors which is the wine and nuts and they are placed in the eco bags and 4 hours later the event officially started. There are few doctors are coming and Mam Cris told us that we need to buy some nuts because the doctors are drinking beer they need to have some snacks to match it so we went to WalterMart Makiling to buy some nuts and after that we went back to the events center and the dinner is under away. I saw the foods and I'm literally hungry when I saw the lechon and kare-kare! And after that the party was officially started the doctors played the games, won the raffle and Dra. Cabanela with Sir Mags gave the loyalty awards for some doctors who served in DMMC for 5-25 years and also they awarded the best costumes for male and female and lastly they celebrated by dancing on the floor all together! So here are some photos of what happened on Wednesday.

Air Jordan 1 or Vans??
VANS!!!!
Selfie!! cos Why not?
Another one!! at the registration booth
Program

Games!!!!
Awarding...
Dance!!! Dance!!! Dance!!!
The event was a success and I'm thankful that I contributed and I'm also happy that I'm part of it. Thursday. I skipped because Mam Cris told us that she will not go to office and also allowed us not to come as well and she told us to rest for the whole day because we're tired of organizing the event. Friday, I arrived at DMMC at exactly 7:28 am. And as always I'm so early and while I'm waiting the office to open I played NBA 2K17 again and again. Our head Mam Cris is absent but she assigned us a task that we should fixed the calendars like to roll it and distribute each calendars to the doctors' clinics (30 pieces every clinic). Those calendars are for the patients and the remaining excess was sent to the cashier department. I didn't took some photos because I was so busy rolling and rolling the calendars and I went back and forth to the fourth floor because Mam Jen and Mam Marylan asked me to sent some things in the fourth floor. And after that I call it a day and I left DMMC at exactly 5:02 pm.

Week 3 was a busy week for me but I enjoyed all of this because at the end of the day I'll gonna also experience this kind of work and working on overtime for organizing an event but all in all it was a productive and so far my busiest week and by the way Sir Jesse from Palaestra visited us earlier (Friday) and he asked us about our concerns regarding our internship in DMMC and also he told us some instructions regarding our internship and the graduation activities for next year and he told us that "Don't give up". This week so far the best week I've ever had in  my internship in DMMC and I hope there's more to come and there is always something to be thankful for. I would like to thank God for this wonderful and blessed week and giving me strength to do this work all week long and also His guidance. That's all for Week 3 and make sure you share this post or even my blog because it will help my blog to be more viral and also follow me on my social media accounts (the links are on my blog on the right side). Thank you for reading!!! ✌

Week 2 - Productive Week!

It's a new day! Yes it is! The second week of my internship in DMMC was so productive. This week I made a lot of work and it was a very indeed a tired and exhausted week for me but it's all good I learned some new things. Monday, It's a new day! Yes it is! Like what I've said on my last blog entry I really hate Mondays but this period of time I love Mondays! What I did last Monday was Mam Chris instructed me to fix the schedules and the profiles of the doctors in DMMC using Microsoft Excel. I was kinda hard because there are almost 100 doctors that are in DMMC and I need to check their medical records to know their updated phone numbers, email addresses and birthday. It took me 2 hours to finish that task because I go back and forth to get the medical records of the doctors and when I'm done with it I return it in the files in alphabetical order so that they are organize and easy to locate. Then after I finished doing that task I had a lunch break together with my co interns then after that I went back to work for the afternoon.

The profiles and schedules of the doctors in DMMC

Late in the afternoon, I print some postcards then I cut it and fold it then Jayson and I went to Industrial clinic to get some eco bags and placed the postcards there for the gifts of the doctors for the upcoming Christmas party of the doctors of DMMC next week. And after that we're done for the day. Tuesday, our head Mam Chris was absent so Jayson and I didn't do some work last Tuesday but Mam Lea gave us task that If she's not around in the office we will gonna answer some calls in the office. Wednesday was a rainy day and Mam Chris gave a task to print the invitations of the upcoming Christmas party of the doctors which is next week. Jayson and I cut the invitations and placed it on the envelop and in the afternoon we distribute the invitations to the clinics of the doctors. Then we went to The Park in Makiling branch to have a free taste of the foods for the Christmas party of the doctors the foods are chicken adobo, pork liempo, chicken fillet and kare-kare. The foods were great especially the Kare-kare but the food is not enough we need more! just kidding! And after that we went back to DMMC and call it a day.

Invitations!!!
Free taste at The Park Makiling branch
I skipped Thursday because it's holiday in Batangas and I went to school and met with my thesis mates to edit some revisions in our thesis. Friday, the most productive day of the week for me because first I cut some papers then after that answered some calls from other departments and now Jayson and I joined Mam Chris together with Ronald McDonald because Ronald McDonald visited the kids in the pedia ward to give some balloons to the kids and he also promoted the new branch of McDonald's in Tanauan highway he told the kids to get well soon and visit the new branch of McDonald's in Tanauan City beside the Citimart. Here are some photos of Ronald McDonald's visit at DMMC.

Ronald McDonald with Mam Chris (wearing blue scarf)
Then after that Mam Chris gave us a task that Jayson and I need to go to the bank to deposit the money. We waited for almost 2 hours because of a long line in RCBC Savings bank. Then all of a sudden we didn't deposited the money because the teller said that we are not allowed to deposit it because it is a new account and it should be cash deposit not cheque. We went back to DMMC and then suddenly there's a cake that's waiting for us and we ate it because we're hungry. Then later that night we attended the Christmas party of the employees of DMMC it was held at the gymnasium of DMMC-IHS the school of DMMC. First we're not allowed to eat because we're not an employee but then our trainers asked us to come get our food with my co-interns in accounting department. The food was alright but the highlight of the night was the dance contest between all of the departments of DMMC which includes the Finance/Accounting department, Ancilliary department, Nursing division and General Services department. The winner of that contest was the Finance/Accounting department. Our department the General Service was the first runner up. But it's all good it is what it is so respect the results. Here are some photos of the Christmas party of DMMC employees.

Christmas party with co interns!

So there you have it guys the 2nd week of my internship in Daniel O. Mercado Medical Center. The second week is much better than the first week because I didn't do something really productive in the first day but the 2nd week was so productive and I feel so tired that maybe I need a 1 week sleep to energize myself (LOL). And also I met some new people and employees in DMMC and they were all nice and approachable. Next week will be a tough week because the Marketing team led by Mam Chris (our head) will be organizing a Doctor's Christmas party which will be held at The Park in Makiling, Calamba, Laguna. So stay tuned and follow me on my social media accounts which is in the upper part of my blog. Stay tuned for the 3rd week and like what I've always said when the Internship started. "Let it fly and have fun"... That's a wrap guys! Make sure you read and leave your comments down below and I'll see you guys next week!

Week 1 - The Beginning of my Internship

I hate Mondays to be honest but last Monday, I was so excited because it is my official start of my internship at Daniel O. Mercado Medical Center (DMMC). I started my internship last Monday (November 28, 2016). I woke up at 5:15am which is not nice to be honest I want to sleep more but I can't because I want to go to DMMC as early as possible because at around 8am is the start of orientation so I have to be early because I live in Sto. Tomas and I will encounter a traffic in FPIP and in Star Tollway. And now I encountered a little bit of traffic but it's alright I left my home at 6:30 am so I'll be around in DMMC at 7:30 am. And now I arrived at DMMC at exactly 7:20 am. That was so early and I was the first one that arrived in DMMC even our HR manager was impressed because I'm so early (I just want to leave an impression). So I waited 40 minutes before the start of the orientation while I'm waiting my co-interns, I browse my facebook, twitter and instagram feed and also I played NBA 2K17 while waiting.

It's now 8:00 am and the orientation should start right away but all the employees of DMMC had their flag ceremony so again I waited again for 30 minutes and then I continue playing 2K17. And the flag ceremony ends and now the Assistant HR manager called us in the room and he prepared the presentation and at exactly 9:00 am the orientation starts. First we introduced ourselves and we also cited our expectations in DMMC. And after that he discussed the history of DMMC, the general house rules and the rules about internship. After he discussed all of it, We have to take our lunch break and will be back at 1:00 pm  because the orientation is not done. We finished our lunch break and we're back at the orientation proper and now Sir Ronnel (our Assistant HR manager) introduced Sir Toffer because he discussed the infection control in the hospital. and he also taught us the proper hand wash because since we're in the hospital we should maintain cleanliness especially our hands because of the viruses and germs. The orientation ended at 2:00 pm and Sir Ronnel let us go home early because it's only orientation but he said that he will gonna count it as 8 hours so nothing to worry about because the real work starts tomorrow.

Tuesday. The real work starts today. And as always I left my home at exactly 6:45 am and I arrived at DMMC at 7:20 am and again I'm the earliest of them all. I went first to 7 Eleven and I'm on the waiting game again because I'm waiting for my co interns so that we will go to DMMC all together and we went to the HR department to meet Sir Ronnel our Assistant HR manager because he will gonna assign us to our respective departments. By the way our co interns are Management Accounting, IT and Marketing students from LPU-Laguna and Operations Management students from STI College in Tanauan City. We're 3 students from LPU-Laguna who are in Marketing department. And now Sir Ronnel introduced us in our department which is the Admin Office. The office of Marketing department is also in the Admin Office as well. Sir Ronnel introduced us to Mam Chris our head and she's also the head of marketing in DMMC. She's organizing events in DMMC such as medical missions, Christmas parties, etc. Sir Ronnel also introduced us to Sir Argel, Mam Lea and Mam Jen. So the time is officially started! Mam Chris told us to write why did we choose DMMC and our expectations all throughout 4-5 months. And after that she instructed us to change the posters and collect the old posters. Also I was instructed to give the receipts to canteen, MMD (The materials room) and to the accounting department. And also our head instructed us to fix the powerpoint presentation of the services in DMMC. And now we're done for the whole day because our head says that we're not too busy yet but in the mid December we have a lot of transactions so "chill guys" she said. Oh and by the way I have an I.D.! That was so nice because it will be a remembrance when our internship ends.

Thursday. I skipped Wednesday because it's national holiday so no work yesterday!!! Last Thursday our head Mam Chris was on leave so we don't have tasks but until Mam Marylan, the secretary of Doctor (I can't remember the name) instructed us to photocopy 38 pieces of a certain memo. I was so nervous because it's my first time to operate a photocopy machine but it went good and also I fixed the files such as the materials in the office and also clean our workplace. And the toughest challenge for me is to answer a call from other departments. First I was nervous but then they taught us what to say when having a phone call. But we're allowed to answer calls if there's no one in the department and the three of us left. But if there's one employee in our department, We're not allowed to answer calls.

TGIF!! It's Friday and we had a first Friday mass together with all the employees in DMMC. I give thanks to God because of these opportunities and the blessings that He's given to me all year long. After the mass we're back to work and we stamp the pay parking receipt in DMMC. The numbers of stamp should be in order and then Mam Marylan asked a favor to photocopy 38 pieces of memo again. And from out of nowhere Mam Chris is already in the office because she has to organize a medical mission which held on Saturday, She instructed me to cut some papers and fix the tarpaulin in the chapel. And after that we're done for the day.

First Friday mass with Management Accounting interns! (Photo credit: John Argenel Biglete)

There you have it guys! My first week of internship was great! The things that I don't really do in school such as photocopy but now in internship I experienced all of it. I really enjoy my first week in DMMC and I hope in coming weeks and months will be great. Tomorrow is Week 2 and I hope this will be good as first week. In my next blog I'll post what will happen in Week 2 and I'm so excited for the new challenges and opportunities because it keeps me motivated and to work hard every single day. I'll end this blogpost with a quote coming from Michael Jordan "Always turn a negative situation into a positive situation". I'll see you on my next blogpost which is in Friday so make sure you drop your comments down below the experiences in your internship and share this on Facebook, Twitter and maybe Instagram. I'm Ryan and I'll see y'all on Friday for Week 2! Have a nice day!
